Toromocho represents one of the largest copper reserves in Peru and in the world, having estimated reserves of 1.52 billion tonnes of ore grading 0.48% copper, 0.019% molybdenum and 336 million oz of silver. The Toromocho project's environmental impact assessment (EIA) for exploration was approved on December 14, 2010, according to directorial resolution Nº411-2010-MEM/AAM issued by the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines.
